Chuir Sult na Sollán agus Cill Dara le Gaeilge tús leis an bpróiseas pleanála teanga go luath in 2017 le sraith cruinnithe chun ionchur a fháil ón bpobal i gContae Chill Dara. Bhí neart díospóireachta agus neart plé ann ón lucht féachana a bhí i láthair. Bhí béim ar cheithre ábhar faoi leith ag an gcruinniú – stádas na teanga, deiseanna foghlama, deiseanna cainte agus feiceáilteacht na teanga.
Lean an grúpa pleanála ar aghaidh ina dhiaidh sin ag bailiú comhairle ó phríomhpháirtithe leasmhara an phobail. Foilsíodh an chéad phlean teanga do Chontae Chill Dara i mí Feabhra 2019 in Áras Chill Dara, Ceanncheathrú Chomhairle Contae Chill Dara. Plean cúig bliana atá ann don tréimhse 2019-2023. Ba é an chéad phlean teanga contae a scríobhadh riamh sa tír é.
I mí na Bealtaine 2023, chuir Cill Dara le Gaeilge tús le plean teanga seacht mbliana le haghaidh chontae Chill Dara le sraith ceardlann leis na grúpaí áitiúla Gaeilge sa chontae chun próiseas na pleanála teanga a phlé. Tugadh cuireadh don phobal i gcoitinne freastal ar na ceardlanna sin. Ceardlanna idirgnhíomhacha a bhí iontú, inar pléadh fís agus féideartachtaí don Ghaeilge sa chontae. Bhailigh na coistí áitiúla an t-eolas agus na tuairimí a tháinig chun cinn sna ceardlanna. Cuirfear an t-eolas sin san aireamh sa dara phlean teanga.
Seoladh an dara plean teanga don chontae, “Plean don Ghaeilge i gContae Chill Dara 2024-2030” ar an 19 Samhain in Áras Chill Dara. Cloch mhíle é seoladh an dara plean do Chontae Chill Dara ós rud é nach bhfuil plean teanga contae scríofa ag contae ar bith eile sa tír go dtí seo. Tá cóip den phlean ar fáil thíos.
Sult na Sollán and Cill Dara le Gaeilge began the language planning process in early 2017 with a series of meetings to get input from the public in County Kildare. There was a lot of debate and discussion from the audience. Four specific topics were highlighted at the meeting – the status of the language, opportunities to learn, opportunities to speak and the visibility of the language.
The planning group then continued to gather advice from key public stakeholders. The first language plan for County Kildare was published in February 2 019 in Áras Chill Dara, Kildare County Council Headquarters. It is a five-year plan for 2019-2023. It was the first written language in the country.
In May 2023, Kildare began a seven year language plan for County Kildare with a series of workshops with the local Irish language groups in the county to discuss the language planning process. The general public was invited to attend these workshops. It was an interactive workshop which explored vision and possibilities for the Irish language in the county. The local committees gathered the information and views that emerged in the workshops. This information will be included in the second language plan.
The second language plan for the county, “Plan for the Irish Language in County Kildare 2024-2030”, was launched on 19 November in Áras Chill Dara. The launch of the second plan for County Kildare is a milestone as no other county in the country has written a county language plan to date. A copy of the plan is below.

As part of the planning process in County Kildare, an annual Irish language conference is organised during Seachtain na Gaeilge. The Irish language community in County Kildare is invited to attend Meitheal Chill Dara, an event organised in early March to review progress discuss the opportunities and develop new networks. The first ever Irish language conference was organised in the county in March 2020.
Meitheal Chill Dara gives the Irish language community, language activists/service providers and anyone with an interest in the promotion of Irish a great opportunity to meet with others working with the language in County Kildare.
Seo sraith físeán ó Ghlór na nGael a dhéanann cur síos ar an bpróiseas pleanála.
